FAQs
-
Foster care is the temporary placement of an animal that has been left stray and without an owner (pound rescues or surrender)
-
We rescue animals that have come from unknown or distressing backgrounds, with many having had a tough time along the way. In order for us to find suitable homes, we need these animals to arrive into the warmth of a temporary home.
We often see sick, injured or traumatised animals, that will need to take a little bit of time to come out of their shell and learn to trust again.
-
If you have considered becoming a foster carer, please get in touch. you can send us an email or follow the application form on this website.
Please consider your commitments and let us know of anything that may interfere with your foster animal's stay, such as a trip.
We generally advertise all rescue animals on social media. Most of our animals come from interstate, and we are unable to arrange transportation for these until a foster home has been found.
-
It depends on the individual animal, their health, age, behaviour and additional needs. Having said that, we want these animals to land on their feet, at least for a little while, so they can settle and come out of their shell a little bit more, before finding a suitable home.
So please let us know if there are any commitments (such as a holiday) that may interfere with your foster’s stay and we will do our best to accomodate.
Essentially we want to be able to give these rescues as much time as they need, for some it might be a couple of weeks, for others it may be longer.
-
We aim to be there for you every step of the way, from meeting you at the transport, to ongoing support throughout the stay. We will be arranging all veterinary appointments and handling all adoption enquiries.
The most important part is an open line of communication. Whatever the worry might be, we want to be there for you and the animal to create the best arrangements for everyone.
We will try our best to supply you with all health-care related products (such as parasite protection), as well as food. We would appreciate if the foster carer was able to source some bedding and leads/collars, but if you aren't in a position to do so, please let us know and we will try our best to get it to you.
-
Sometimes that can happen, and we completely understand that not everyone will get along. Some of our rescue animals may be arriving from poorly socialised situations, or may have not had a good experience in a pound setting.
If you feel any type of concern about your resident animal and foster animal’s relationship, please get in touch with us, we will arrange changes that suit everyone.
-
If you notice any type of symptom, please contact us ASAP. We work with multiple veterinary clinics in and around Melbourne, and will direct you to a clinic nearest to you. We have various veterinary nurses that volunteer for us as well, and we are always able to get a professional opinion on what would be best practise.

We call that a foster fail, and most of us working in rescue will have one (or more). It’s always super exciting to welcome a new fur baby to the family, and we love them all, so we get it. But take your time considering your decision carefully. However, if you have decided that you would like to adopt your foster animal, we would be delighted to talk to yo about it, so let us know.
